Wall-E
is a movie produced by Pixar Animation
Studios and directed by Andrew
Stanton. The story tells us around robot,
and the main character is Waste Allocation Load
Lifter Earth-class, or in short we can call it Wall-E. He
goes around doing his job, as he has for the past 700 years, compacting trash
into cubes and stacking them into immense towers. On the side, he collects
remnants of humanity to keep for his own amusement. Zippo lighters, Rubik's
Cubes, Christmas lights: these are what Wall-E surrounds himself with. Because
he is so alone (except for a little cockroach), these dirty, abandoned objects
are his companions.
The movie starts on a future earth where there
are no humans. As far as the eyes can see, there is garbage – fields of junk
stuff, skyscrapers made of garbage blocks and towers of trash. Everywhere there
are signs of the human civilization that no longer exists on the dead planet
which evidently is unfit to sustain life anymore. There is a strong evidence
for it, the rivers are polluted due to industrial wastes, and
the water’s color has been changed into a turbid. Actually, where the human life is?
Human already leave earth and living in an
enormous spaceship. It is an effort from human to make sure they can still
alive despite their earth is not possible to live on. If we pay attention to
see the human life in the spaceship, we will see that there is much more robot
than human. It calls my memory back, when I realized that there is a same movie
like Wall-E, another doraemon movie “Doraemon: Nobita and
the Robot Kingdom.” Both of Wall-E and Doraemon: Nobita and the Robot Kingdom are concerns about the increasing use of
robots and their role in society.
The
paradox here is that the human characters feel less interesting and complex
than the robot. I want to critically think about this matter. As shown on
video, Everything have replaced by robot, the human task has been taken over by
robot. they empowering robots to do all part of activities which human actually
do.
What
is the consequence here ?
Human
becomes fat more and more. It is because they can’t run anymore so the machine
helps just for the sake of keeping them to still move. Just standing up in your
seat, the machines will do whatever you want. They become lazy. This is the
point, “Humans are too dependent on the robot”. Hey human, we must aware and
don’t wanna be a slave of robot. We create it. We invent it, but you worship
them as if they were GOD.
I
realize that technology makes our life better. And they can make everything easier and faster. I think there is no
human that don’t wanna use the technology as their part. Therefore, use the technology wisely to solve the problem.
Okay, I want to appreciate to Pixar Animation Studio, which
was produced Wall-E movie. I think it wants to deliver a message using an
animation movie, and there is a good morale hidden shown on movie. Thumbs up
for you, Pixar Animation Studio.
